ALIS AN - BMus’17 (McGill), MPerf’19 (Royal College of Music), ArtDip’20 (Royal College of Music), MAS’22 (Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana)
Alis An is a Canadian concert pianist, Doctor of Music candidate at the Royal College of Music, and RCM Studentship Holder. In the most recent concert season she was invited to appear as a soloist for Chopin’s Concerto No. 1, with the Orchestra dell’Università di Milano-Bicocca, at Villa Olmo, in Como, Italy. She has been invited to perform in concerts across Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, and UK, and will be performing in Italy and the UK during the autumn season of 2023.
Alis has a keen interest in chamber music and enjoys regular performances as part of multiple ensembles, including as keyboardist for London-based contemporary chamber orchestra Cat’s Cradle Collective. She enjoys the challenge of new music; she has been selected as the soloist in 900presente’s production of Don Perlimplin in spring 2021 which was broadcasted on Radiotelevisione Svizzera, and has appeared again in their spring 2022 production as the soloist for Philippe Manoury’s fiendishly demanding Hypothèses du sextuor.
Keen to positively impact the world through music, Alis is one of the artists and organisers of the Arte Solidale Festival, an international classical music festival and charity, alongside artistic director Danilo Mascetti. The festival promotes young artists as well as supports minors in need, by collaborating with social organisations in the territory of Lake Como. The Arte Solidale Festival was fully booked for their week-long 8th Edition in September 2022 and enjoyed 7 concerts in important villas and halls in and around Como, such as Villa del Balbianello and Villa Carlotta.
She is the pupil of William Grant Naboré. She has previously studied with Vsevolod Dvorkin, Gordon Fergus-Thompson, Dmitri Alexeev, Sofya Gulyak, Nigel Clayton, Julia Gavrilova, Jacques Després and Irina Konovalova. Besides her other awards, she has been generously supported throughout her studies by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Ranald and Vera Shean Memorial Foundation, and the Winspear Fund. She was the ’19/‘20 Pauline Hartley Award Holder at the Royal College of Music and Anne Burrows Music Foundation ’18/’19 Recipient.
In addition to winning Special Prize at the Premio E. Tschaikowsky, she was awarded “Absolute 1st Prize” at the 5th Tadini International Music Competition, 2nd Prize at the Montecatini International Piano Competition 2019 and is a laureate of competitions such as the Canadian Music Competition and the International Music Competition Paris.
